Translated, with an Introduction and Notes, by John Chryssavgis and Pachomios (Robert) Penkett
Written in the fifth century, during one of the most formative periods of christian monasticism in Egypt and Palestine, The Ascetic Discourses show a strong influence of the Scripture, both Old and New, and of Early monastic writers. They are marked by a faithfulness to tradition, yet equally by a note of originality distinctive to the Gaza region. Abba Isaiah has set forth a practical guide for monks, ever aware of the challanges that interpersonal relationships present within monastic communities.

UPDATE 3/2 noon: we continue to experience periodic power outages as regional repairs continue to be made.
UPDATE 2/27: Glory to God, the monastery finally had its power restored last night after an outage of nearly two weeks following the severe ice storm of Feb 15th. However, phones and internet service are still down and the divine services are therefore unable to be live-streamed.
We are working to fulfill orders placed via our online store as quickly as we are able, however our stock has been heavily depleted since production was severely debilitated during the weeks we had only generator power. We appreciate everyone's patience as we are doing our best to run our business during these circumstances.
We are still working to repair all the damage done by the ice storm. This has been greatly aided by the overwhelming outpouring of support from people across the country and even across the world, for which we are extraordinarily grateful. May God richly reward all the hundreds of people who have stepped forward to help us in our time of need!
Above all, we are grateful for everyone's prayers. Please continue to pray for us, and be assured of our unworthy prayers for you!
