'New Men' Film Coming Soon

A new documentary film about our monastery is set for release on April 23rd. The project began two and a half years ago, when Sam Cox, a young filmmaker and spiritual seeker, approached Fr. Seraphim about making the film. Sam wanted to know why men in our time would choose to pursue monastic life. With Fr. Seraphim’s blessing, Sam began production of the film in August 2017, which lasted until January 2019. Over the course of making the film, Sam spent over three months living at the monastery. During this time, he was also united to the Holy Orthodox Church.

Unlike the monastery’s own film From the Little Mountain, New Men features interviews with various members of the coummunity, providing an intimate glimpse of the brotherhood. The recent innovation of drone photography also allowed the monastery’s picturesque natural setting to be captured more vividly than was possible a decade ago.

New Men has already been screened at a number of film festivals, as well as various Orthodox parishes in Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Georgia. Starting April 23rd, the film will be available for streaming on Vimeo. DVD copies of the film will also be available, exclusively through the monastery web store. You can watch the trailer, or schedule a screening for your parish, by going to the film’s official website, www.newmendoc.com.

Thank you Hermitage of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross! We love From the Little Mountain, and I have more than once considered writing to ask if you would please make another. I know our children will be excited to find out another film from the Hermitage is coming. Count on us to buy a dvd.

Monastery Closed Temporarily & St. Panteleimon's Day Cancelled

UPDATE: as the virus continues to spread throughout the brotherhood, services in church are now being limited to the Hours only and will NOT be live-streamed. The exception will be Great Vespers on Saturday night at 6:30pm and Hours & Liturgy on Sunday at 9:00am, both of which will be broadcast.

As of Thursday, July 29 multiple members of the brotherhood have tested positive for COVID-19 and almost everyone has fallen ill. Therefore Fr. Seraphim has decided to close the monastery to visitors temporarily, and unfortunately we will have to cancel the public celebration of St. Panteleimon's Day on August 8/9.

Because we are very shorthanded, we will also be closing the store through the end of this week. Orders can continue to be placed either online or via phone message, and will be fulfilled as quickly as possible beginning Tuesday, August 3.

Thank you for your understanding, and please keep us in your prayers during this time.

Unfortunately, due to the recent appearance of COVID-19 at the monastery, the celebration of St. Panteleimon's Day will have to be closed to the public this year. However, we will continue to live-stream the divine services online.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy there will be a special Festal Moleben to St. Panteleimon, as well as for eight days following the feast. We invite everyone to submit the names of those in need of his aid for commemoration during these services. Please use the form below to submit these names.
