Feast of St. John the Theologian 2016

Ten monks from Holy Cross travelled to the Hermitage's Skete of St. John the Theologian in Hiram, OH to celebrate its patronal feast day. Archbishop Peter of Chicago presided during the festal services, with Archimandrite Seraphim (abbot of the Skete and the Hermitage) concelebrating along with the Skete superior Hieromonk Nektarios and many other clergy.

On Monday, September 27 the brotherhood of Holy Cross Monastery celebrated their patronal feast day, the Exaltation of the Precious Cross. Celebrations were led by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, and during the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy he ordained Fr. Isaac to the holy diaconate.

Church Construction Halted

We regret to report that construction on the new church has been brought to a halt. In mid-July, we discovered that our general contractor had not been paying his subcontractors. After attempts to resolve the issues in good faith failed, we reluctantly decided to terminate the contract. We have retained legal counsel and are currently in the process of identifying and paying all debts owed to subcontractors and suppliers. This is a necessary step to move forward. We are also searching for a new general contractor to take over the job.

UPDATEas of Thursday, August 12, Archimandrite Seraphim, Fr. Benedict, and Fr. Damascene have all been released from the hospital and are recovering at home. Altogether 20 of our 26 community members have fallen ill with the coronavirus, but thanks be to God and to St. Panteleimon everyone is either stable or recovering.
