Panforte are back and baked exclusively at the Hermitage!

This traditional dessert is a rich and chewy spice cake (the name means "strong bread" in Italian). It combines dried fruit and nuts, honey, sugar, oat and almond flours, and spices, all baked slowly to produce a moist, flavorful, delectable cake. It goes well with red wine, sweet wine, coffee, or tea, and makes a tasty snack at any time of day.

We're baking five flavors year-round:

  • Brandied Pear—Pears, walnuts, and dried cherries are soaked in an aromatic pear liqueur for a delectable, boozy treat.
  • Apple Pie—Apples, pecans, raisins, cinnamon, and nutmeg all go into this down home concoction.
  • Fig Walnut—Figs, walnuts, and black currants meld together with a dash of nutmeg and cloves for a hearty cake full of warm, wintertime flavors.
  • Apricot Almond—Candied ginger and lemon zest give a delicious zing to this combination of turkish apricots, almonds, and hazelnuts.
  • Date Pistachio—Deglet noor dates, savory roasted pistachios, golden raisins, cardamom, and orange zest put a Middle Eastern twist on this flavorful cake.

All-natural & gluten free*!

Each cake weighs 8 oz.

*Baked in a facility that processes gluten.

Aspettative desluse

I am an American of Italian ancestry. (My paternal grandparents and my wife's parents immigrated from Italy.) For us, panforte is a traditional Christmas treat. I liked the fact that your panforte was not sickeningly sweet like many American desserts, but I felt it was quite small for the price. I realize that the spices and ingredients you use are not cheap... and I did not expect the panforte to be huge, but I can buy panforte at a local Italian-American grocery store that comes imported from Italy, and I expected it to be about that size. It goes good with coffee, and I will probably try the fig and date panfortes next time before making my final appraisal. Here are some prices I found online: Your product is 227 gr. / 8 oz. for $15
I realize the ingredients affect the price, but generally speaking the Italian imports are larger and competitive especially when you consider that the prices below include import duties.

Sapore Panforte Toscano 250 gr. / 8 oz. $15
La Fiorentina 340 gr. / 12 oz. $16.95
Sapore Panforte Margherita 320 gr. / 8.8 oz. $10.99

Apple pie panforte

This one was really good but my favorite still is the one with apricots. Special flavors in each panforte though, good for those who like spiced and healthy desserts
